EDITING - DAY 2

DAY 2

Friday 11th January 2013

SUMMARY
In the previous post it said that we planned "to pick up where we left off on Thursday 17th January 2013". As you can see we did not do this, we were so excited and pleased with the turn out of the first session that we couldn't wait to finish our media text! We did mention that we had a small implication with transferring our animation to to the movie maker story board... After the first session Georgia took the animation file home and saved the day by some how figuring out how to convert the file into a compatible program for movie maker. We did have another small glitch but it was nothing to stress about, we realized that the Vince Kidd track wasn't saved onto my iTunes therefore the music had disappeared from the storyboard. The minor issue literally took five minutes to fix. Everything after this point was pretty straight forward, we were able to add in smooth running transitions and fade out the music towards the end of the music video like we intended. Overall i'm pretty sure that Georgia and I can agree that the software that we used to edit was SO MUCH BETTER and complimented what we had visioned for our music video. A year ago would have never imagined editing a media text within 3.5 hours ! This outlines the improvement of Georgia and I's creativity, technology skills and common sense from AS to A2.

The software that we used and contributed our media text.
( Youtube MP3 Converter, iTunes and Movie Maker )

WWW - WHAT WENT WELL

- Finishing our media text in 3.5 hours.
- Transitions and effects added and adjusted to how we planned.

EBI - EVEN BETTER IF

- We started the second session straight away instead of getting distracted.

Although we have finished, we plan to show our media teacher our music video, to get her feedback so if any changes need to be made we will be doing some more editing.

EDITING - DAY 1

DAY 1
Thursday 10th January 2013
SUMMARY
A couple of weeks ago Georgia and I took advantage of our study periods and went to my house to start the editing process. As anticipated using Movie maker on PC was SO MUCH EASIER than using the macs, we could access and download all things that needed to be applied to our media text with out having to worry about getting administrator permission from IT technicians at school. We did make a couple of changes from our story board, we added added a 'type writer' audio  to the first shot of the music video. Georgia downloaded this using Youtubemp3.tv. A further change that was made was a rewind effect to outline the intertextuality of Madonna's 'Like A Virgin' to Vince Kidd's more current cover of the song, again Georgia downloaded the audio effect using Youtubemp3.tv. Unfortunately towards the end of that session, we could not convert the animation files that we worked SO HARD for,  to the movie maker story board! Instead of becoming flustered and stressed which I am normally the guilty culprit of, we decided to leave the first editing session on a good note and planned to pick up where we left off on Thursday 17th January 2013.

Images taken from the session.

WWW - WHAT WENT WELL

- We got more than half of the editing finished in the first 2 hour session.
- We downloaded everything that we needed for our media text without implication.
- Georgia and I communicated extremely well as a pair.
- Movie make was straight forward to use as anticipated

EBI - EVEN BETTER IF

-  We done some research into transferring animations from different programs onto movie maker before hand.

SNOWED IN !!!

Apologies for my blog not having any recent updates lately, but on the bright side exam season is over!! FOR NOW ... and  school was shut today due to the snowy weather conditions.

This gives me the opportunity to work on my drafts and hopefully have a minimum of one post published by the end of today.

UPDATE OF MUSIC SOIRE

Apologies for the delay on this post, there were some technical difficulties in uploading the videos of the performances and interviews as a result this post has been sitting in my drafts...

HOWEVER

On Saturday the 24th of November 2012, Bishop Stopford's School annual 'Music Soirée' took place.

As mentioned in the previous post I made regarding the
soirée, Georgia and I took the benefits we have of knowing an underground artist/band and turned it into an opportunity to get some information of what goes through an artist/bands mind when they are creating an album cover/digipak.

DIGIPAKS

DIGIPAKS
What is a Digipak ?
A digipak is a card CD case with folding parts.
A FEW FACTS ABOUT DIGIPAKS ..

  • Digipak- style packaging is often used for CD singles or special editions of CD albums
  • Digipaks typically consist of a gate-fold (book-style), paperboard or card stock outer-binding with one or more plastic trays capable of holding a CD attached to the inside.
What does a Digipak look like ?
How does a digipak  benefit the artist ?
The front of the digipak will have some aspect of what the artist is trying to represent and what their predominate genre is. The digipak will most likely embody the theme and message that the album is supposed to create, increasing the popularity of the artist.

Digipaks benefit the artist and their music as it is a promotional aspect of the music industry, which helps bring awareness to the artist thus selling the artist and encouraging consumers to buy and listen to their music.

EXAMPLE OF A CURRENT DIGIPAK
Front of 'Unapologetic' digipak

Inside of Rihanna's latest album digipak 'Unapologetic'
** Excuse the poor quality of the image, the images were taken by my iPhone from my person CD album/digipak**
Touching on the point mentioned above, that the album/digipak will most likely embody the theme and message of the album is definitely the case with this album. From an analytic point of view Rihanna promotes being an individual, in an edgy type of way in general. This particular digipak portrays a message of not caring about societies thoughts, breaking the rules and having fun. The front of the the digipak illustrates Rihanna naked with her latest tattoo connoting freedom to doing what she likes, and different words all over her body e.g 'Unapologetic' the title of the album is plastered across her breast and nipple, which would be portrayed as inappropriate however the message she is creating with this is she doesn't care who it offends she is going to carry on being herself and have fun doing it.

We have created the front-cover of our album now is the time to create the digipak ...

These are my personal ideas that I have come up with so far ..

More silhouettes to push forward the facelessness of the subject matter we are representing in our narrative.

The actual animated characters from the music video that carry the narrative.

Advice on peer pressure and losing virginity for our target audience (teenagers), I think this
is a particularly good idea because conventionally artists promote their theme and message through their digipak, so by doing this it would promote the song as well as advise regarding the subject matter which could raise awareness that peer pressure is common and there are things that can be done to prevent this.

MALFUNCTION...

On Monday 10th December 2012, our media lesson was based in the mac suite so that we could blog and edit. Georgia and I ATTEMPTED to do so ...

HOWEVER

Figuring out how to move around and cut our media text was trickier than we thought ...

THEREFORE

We weren't able to start or complete our editing...

We have the intentions of starting editing before Christmas or even during the Christmas period.
On a bright note !
Georgia's and I have been able to finish the animation, that will be incorporated into our music video. Below is a teaser of what has been done.

We have shown the teaser to one of media teachers and she has compared the the look of our animation to the animations that represent 'The Gorillaz',  an English musical and visual project created in 1998 by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett. The project consists of Gorillaz itself and an extensive fictional universe depicting a "virtual band" of cartoon characters.

Image of the band.

This is one of their music videos named 'Stylo', this is a good example of one of their music videos that have a similarity to what we are trying to create in our music video. We are trying to create a sense of reality as well as the youth portrayal using animation as a representation.

LACK OF MOTIVATION ...

As you can see I haven't  posted anything for a while mainly because of my lack of motivation over the Christmas holidays ..

                 +

     = NO POSTS

& the fact that most of my posts are in drafts ..

I plan to finish off some of my drafts today and produce posts daily from now on ..
